As I've shared on this blog, my company had a sales competition going on. The part of this that was important was the teamwork part. While we have struggled sometimes to create a team because we let ourselves use stress, disagreements, and other problems to disrupt the team, I was hopeful that we could move beyond that and work together. I have to say that I'm very proud of the team. They did it. In spades. It was inspiring. And absolutely wonderful to be a part of. I believe in teams. I believe that if we can move past our own egos, we accomplish great things. I am so proud of my teammates today, I could burst!
What has this got to do with recovery? We all let ourselves believe, on some level, that we are alone in the struggle. But we don't have to be. Truly. Use your support system. And if you don't have one, create it. NAMI has support groups. Call them up today and see what kinds of groups are located in your area. Reach out! Even through the worst of your pain, you can find a resource. The trick is to not feel so overwhelmed that you can't begin to create a solution. But it is all up to you. People can't be there for you till they know you are there.
From sales competitions to recovery, "WE" is very powerful. Even when I fall down, I know that someone else has the idea or the option that might help me get through. Seriously. In terms of my company, I learned once again that teams are powerful. My unit of our company will soon be enjoying the catered luncheon that we earned as a result of winning the competition. And I will continue to enjoy the fact that we did it. Together.
